The theme of FERCHAU’s booth at the HMI 2011 was »Experience FERCHAU from a different perspective«. Therefore, the booth was highlighted by three-dimensional images, such as a large-scale, stereoscopic picture, which could be enjoyed with 3D glasses, as well as our self-developed App.
It was our mission to create something that would let the visitors experience the firm’s seven departments. For this purpose, we designed and programmed an »Augmented Reality«-application for the iPhone and the iPod touch. By looking at the display, the user is able to see and explore one of FERCHAU’s seven virtual exhibits, which are »invisible« in real life, from various points of view. To make this possible, several 3D models were painstakingly prepared and optimized for small displays. The result is far from shabby:
»Beats all other AR-Apps available at the App Store«
(A user’s review from the App Store)
The »FERCHAU AR« App is a kind of magazine, which grants access to knowledge on the German engineering industry. Interesting facts, which are presented in an informative and exciting way, show how multi-faceted and even surprising the tasks are that Germany’s smartest minds face. In this way we reach the reader on a much more emotional level than any classic ad would.
Since the visitors were supposed to handle the iPods at the booth, we created a special safety clamp made of stainless steel, which not only shields the control elements, but also converts the power cable into an anti-theft device. On top of that, it is also very discreet in appearance.
We produced a short video clip for the project’s internet campaign, which shows and explains the application.
You can download the »FERCHAU AR« App for free at the App Store or at Google Play.
